Viaggi di Architettura proposes an unforgettable trip to all architecture enthusiasts in the booming Vienna with specialized tour guides.

Experience in Vienna will be going around on foot or by taking metro. Walking itinerary will start by visiting and the Haas Haus by Hans Hollein as one of the first examples of modern architecture in Europe in whose façade one can see magnificent St. Stephen’s Cathedral (Stephansdom). Along the way, there will be many buildings some are which:

  • Engel-Apotheke by Oscar Laske, a famous architect at Vienna’s First district
  • Judenplatz Holocaust Memorial by Rachel Whiteread (Jabornegg & Palffy Architects

After a quick break at the Palmenhaus Cafè, greenhouse restored by Studio EOK inside the Burggarten (Hofburg gardens), tour proceeds to visit Hofburg and Albertina museums. Perfect combination of art and architecture: MuseumsQuartier, one of the largest art and culture complexes in the world house to renowned museums and exhibition halls such as innovative Kunsthalle, MUMOK (Museum Moderner Kunst) by Ortner&Ortner or Leopold Museum that contains the largest collection of Egon Schiele and numerous works of Klimt.

Otto Wagner Vienna, one of the architect founding members of Vienna Secession, has many Art-Nouveau architecture spread around the streets of Vienna such as Pavilions at Karlsplatz, Otto Wagner Church, Austrian Postal Savings Bank or Railway Station. In passing, there will be unique colorful exterior façade of the Hundertwasser House or Kunt Haus Vien by Friedensreich Hundertwasser.

Just outside the center, easy to arrive by metro, there is the Gasometer of Vienna where brick cyclinders were turned into innovative houses and shops by many famous architects such as Jean Nouvel or Coop Himmelblau. Danube City, again built by many architects such as Hollein and others is one of the largest municipal developments. Toward north, at Spittelau, there is the utopic Karl Marx Hof, longest single residential building, by Ehn and Spittelau Viaducts Housing Project (Wohnbau Spittelau) by Zaha Hadid.

Whilst in the new residential areas such as Kabelwerk, Wienerberg City or Sargfabrik, new typology of co-housing can be seen with pools, restaurants and offices. At the Werkburg zone, there are buildings by Rietveld, Loos, Plischke and Wagner as well as the museum Ernst-Fuchs.
