Olympics event contributed to the city’s architectural treasure. One of Barcelona’s most outstanding buildings Palau Sant Jordi covered sports complex by Arata Isozaki and outside a series of sculptures by Aiko Miyawaki, a delicate ensemble of 36 concrete cylinders topped by metal rings and steel cables that gleam at night. The area is now one of the most fashionable with its 3-4 km of promenade and clean beaches. The copper sculpture ‘El Peix d’Or‘ or ‘The Golden Fish‘ by Frank Gehry has become the emblem of the port.
