
Arrive at the airport and meet with specialized guide. Transfer to the hotel, check in and have a quick snack at the hotel and walk to the nearby City of Arts and Science. Ride on a private, open train up the pedestrian area, inside the former bed of the Turìa river, to admire the Alameda bridge, (Calatrava, 1995), Palau de la Musica (Josè Marìa de Paredes, 1987) and various landscapes (Bofill/ others). Arrive in the historic centre of town and have a guided walk to see some of the most spectacular art nouveau buildings in Europe: the recently restored Mercado Central (1928), the Estacion del Nord (1917), the bull fighting ring Plaza de Toros (Sebastiàn Monleòn, 1850), which is the second largest bullring worldwide, also used for other events like concerts and fairs, the Romanesque-Gothic Cathedral (XIII-XVIII centuries), La Lonja (XV century, listed by UNESCO) and the seat of the regional government (XV century). Aperitif of agua de Valencia (fresh orange juice and sparkling wine) at one of the cafès inside the recently restored Mercato del Colòn (Francisco Mora Berenguer, 1916) and return to hotel. Dinner on own.

After breakfast buffet, walk to the City of Arts and Science (Calatrava 2001-2006). Guided tour of the complex and various buildings: the Science Musuem (2001), the City of Arts (2006), the Ombracle - a kind of open air greenhouse for tropical trees and plants, built to hide the garage underneath, and the planetarium (2001). Continue towards the Aquarium (Felix Candela, 2001). Lunch at the underwater restaurant of the aquarium complex and free time. In the afternoon, screening of a documentary at the high definition digital i-max theatre in the planetarium. Return on own to hotel and dinner on own.

Breakfast buffet at the hotel and departure with private coach to the Espai Vert (Antonio Cortès, 1992), an unusual, post-modern, sustainable, living complex, where apartments have hanging gardens, with a total of 300 residents that live there. Next stop, the Ciutat Universitaria and the University Library (Grassi, 1988). Then, on to the Conference Centre (Foster & Partners, 1998), Reales Atarazanas (XIV century), a construction where ships were formerly built and now home to the Joaquín Saludes Maritime Museum, with its valuable collection of archaeological pieces and models. Then, on to Estadio de Mestalla (1923), the home ground of the Valencia C.F., and Estadio Nou Mestalla (Arup Sport/Reid Fenwick Associates, expected opening 2009), where the team is expected to move in 2009.
Afterwards, we proceed to America’s Cup port with the Balcòn al mar (Josè Maria Tomàs Llavador/ various, 2006). At the neck of the new dock we find the Velas y Vents- America’s Cup Pavillion, built in only 11 months (David Chipperfield, 2006), as well as the pavilions of each team partaking in the regata, many designed by renown architects like that of the Italian Luna Rossa (Renzo Piano), Apart from the shops, the team pavilions remain closed to the public. Several of the smaller buildings on the far side of the inner, harbor dock were demolished shortly after the 2007 regata to make way for the new Grand Prix circuit (2008).
Late lunch of paella Valenciana at the historic La Pepica restaurant, built at the turn of the century on the Paseo Maritimo and coffee at the trendy El Mar de Bamboo. Guided walk through the landscapes and around the boardwalk to the Estaciòn Maritima (various), until reaching the recently requalified art-nouveau Malvarrosa neighbourhood. Free time on the beach (weather permitting) and return to hotel.

Breakfast buffet at the hotel and departure with private coach for a tour of sustainable projects in the city, starting with a visit to the largest housing cooperative in the Comunidad Valenciana. One hour briefing on building regulations that govern construcTion in the city, as well as national laws that make the use of solar panels and renewable energy in new buildings compulsory. Time for Q and A and then, on to the site of the new Central Station for the AVE high speed train that will connect Valencia with Madrid, Barcellona and Zaragoza. Plans are to put all railways underground, covered by a large park. Move on to the recently opened Cabecera Park: 74 acre Bio-park containing a Mediterranean forest, a large artificial lake, a zoo, as well as an open air amphitheatre. Then, on to the della Torre area south of the city to the Sociòpolis building site (masterplan Guillart). The 350,000 m² project is situated on the banks of the new Turìa river-route and contains 2,800 apartments (especially following sustainable concepts with gardens and vegetable patches and the concept of sharing services in common. All buildings, parks and services for residents will be perfectly integrated into the local Mediterranean habitat known as huerta. The ambitious original project contains buildings by Toyo Ito, Muller Arquitectos, Manuel Gausa, R&SIE, MVRDV and various others.
