Day 1

Arrive at the airport and meet with local specialised guide/architect. Transfer to the 4° arrondissement, in the centre of town, to the Centre George Pompidou (Renzo Piano/ Richard Rogers/ Arup 1977-2000), for lunch at George, a restaurant on the fifth floor of the building, with a breathtaking view of the city. Tour of the building and time to see the numerous exhibitions running at the centre. In the early afternoon walk towards place Stravinsky to the Ircam (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique) (extension Renzo Piano Building Workshop, 1990) and then on to the Pavillon de l’Arsenal (Bernard Reichen/ Philippe Robert architectes, 1988). Guided tour of the building and time to see the new permanent exhibition “Paris visite guidée : la ville, histoires et actualités » (“Paris; A Guided Visit”) which presents contemporary Paris and its architecture in an area of more than 800m2. The exhibition reviews the evolution of the past in order to gain an understanding of the cityscape of the present and the future. Walk along the Quais della Senna, alongside the l’Ile-St-Louis, passing by an apartment building on rue de Venise (Wilmotte /Caillaud/ landscape architect M. Corajoud, 1989). Arrive in the early evening at Hotel du Petit Moulin, a new boutique hotel with interiors by Cristian Lacroix, check in and dinner on own. 


Day 2

After breakfast buffet, departure for place Dauphine to embark on a private bateau mouche, to discover the city from the river. Stop at the Musée du Quai Branly, in the 7° arrondissement (Jean Nouvel, landscape by Gilles Clément, 2006). Brief tour of the building and navigate on to the 1° arrondissement towards the Louvre (le Grande Louvre project Pei/ Duval/ Macary/ Wilmotte, 1999). Tour of the extension/ pyramid and lunch at Cafè  Marly. After lunch, move to the Ministère de la Culture (Francis Soler / Frédéric Druot, 2004). Free time for window shopping along rue St-Honoré and Place Vendôme and return to hotel. Dinner at Luc Besson’s restaurant Market.


Day 3

After breakfast buffet, transfer to the Institut du Monde Arabe (Nouvel/ Soria/ Lezene/ Architecture Studio, 1987), in the 5° arrondissement and tour of the building. Walk towards Place des Vosges passing by the Opéra Bastille (Carlos Ott, 1989). Free time for lunch in a café looking on the square. After lunch, move on to the Bibliothèque Nationale de France Francois Mitterand (Dominique Perrault, 1996) in the 13° arrondissement, with its huge buildings in the shape of open books (with an incredible two thirds of the offices and spaces being underground), visit the areas open to the public and landscapes. Proceed to the Cinémathèque Francaise, ex-American Centre (Gehry, 1994) in the 12° arrondissement and lastly to the Bercy 2 shopping centre (Renzo Piano, 1990). Return to hotel and dinner on own.


Day 4

After breakfast buffet, transfer to the Parc de la Villette (Bernard Tschumi, 1986), in the 19° arrondissement. Walk around the park, the Cité des Sciences et de l’industrie (Fainsilber, 1986) and the Cité de la Musique (de Portzamparc, 1995). Move on to La Défense, the major business district of Paris, which is once again expanding and is now the largest purpose-built business district in Europe. Free time for lunch on the spot and transfer to Marché aux Puces (flea market) in Clignancourt, with its’ amazing variety of mid-century, modern articles: old Louis Vuitton luggage and other memorabilia. Transfer to the airport for outbound flight.
