
Pick up from Luxembourg airport (atelier Paczowski & Fritsch, 2008) in the late morning and transfer to Kirchbirg, central financial district developed mainly after the economic boom in the mid 80’s. Guided tour of Place de l’Europe with the 19 storey offices for the European Parliament known as the Porte de l’Europe (Ricardo Bofill, 2004) and other EU administrative buildings. Walk to the Luxembourg Philharmonie with its’ 843 pillars around the circumference of the building (Christian de Portzamparc, 2006). Walk over to the nearby MUDAM- Museum of Modern Art Grand-Duc Jean (Pei/Cobb/Freid, 2006) and lunch under the installation at the Museum Café (Bouroullec brothers). After lunch, free time to walk around the 10,000 m² and admire the contemporary collection. After lunch tour of the area by private coach to see the numerous banks in the area: the Hypolux Bank (Meier, 1993), the Deutsche Bank (Böhm, 1991), visit inside the building with its’ amazing collection of contemporary art and installations in the atrium; the Hypo Vereinsbank (Atelier 5, 1993), the General Bank of Luxembourg (MP Architekten/ Jim Clemens, 2005). Transfer to the d’Coque Cultural and Sports Centre (Roger Taillibert, 2001), 43 000 m² complex containing a sports arena, swimming pool and conference centre, exhibition and retail space. Transfer and check in to the five star hotel Le Royal Luxembourg, in the historic centre of town and free time.
In the early evening, guided walk through the town down to the Abbey and former military hospital Neumünster, listed by UNESCO. The recently renovated complex at the bottom of the historic Grund valley is today a cultural centre dedicated to the Arts containing practice and performance areas for theatre and music, work and exhibition and living areas for artists. Dinner at the brasserie in the complex, followed by after dinner drinks with live jazz. Return on own to hotel.

Breakfast buffet and departure for guided walk of the historic centre of town starting from the eclectic Place d'Armes – a fascinating blend of Renaissance façades and neo-Gothic palaces. Walk around the main pedestrian streets like rue du Curé, rue des Capucins and Grand' Rue until arriving at the Grand-Ducal Palace, where many of the Grand Duchy's official activities still take place. Next stop, the Luxembourg City History Museum. Combining several old houses behind an immense glass façade, the history of the city can be traced through old documents and new computer aided techniques. Time for a ride in the museum’s 60 m2 lift which passes through almost the entire depth of the rocky plateau as far as the lower Grund and then on to the century Casemates, a network of underground passages part of the UNESCO’s heritage list since 1994. Entirely hewn from the solid rock, it was capable of sheltering thousands of defenders during their time, as well as equipment, horses, workshops for artillery, kitchens, bakeries and slaughterhouses. Their area covers 40,000 m².
Next stop, the National Museum of History and Art with its courtyard in the former fish market. Free time for a walk around the museum and to see the collection which goes from prehistory to Picasso. Lastly, on to the former Casino (the new casino has been moved a few kilometres out of town to Mondorf), currently Contemporary Art Forum. Time for lunch and departure for the Villeroy & Boch factory. Brief illustration of production methods and free time in the factory shop. Return to hotel and dinner on own.
In the early evening, departure with private coach for the Philharmonie, concert in the 2000 seat Grand Auditorium, followed by dinner at the renowned Papila Restaurant part of the concert house building. Return to hotel.

Guided walk from the hotel to the Central Station (Jüsgen, 1913) and around the plateau Bourbon with its Art nouveau and Art Déco buildings; visit the nearby Rotonde, former warehouses for train maintenance, transformed into a cultural arena for concerts and exhibitions. The morning continues by private coach to the town of Mullerthal (about 30 km), called ‘little Switzerland’. Guided tour of the Beaufort Castle and time to wander around the centre of town. Next stop, Echternach (about 17 km), to see the beautiful town and small Basilica founded in 698 by a missionary monk from Yorkshire, England, called St Willibrord, who is buried there. Time for lunch in Echternach and departure for the German town of Trier (25km), known as the second Rome during the 3rd century and listed by UNESCO since 1986. Guided walk of the historic centre of town: Porta Nigra / Simeonstift (Simeon's College), Dreikoenigenhaus (House of the Three Magi), main market, Cathedral, Palastaula, Kurfuerstliches Palais (Electoral Palace) – Thermal Baths. In the late afternoon, departure for the airport and outbound flight.
